Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to determine the determinants of ecological identity and ecological footprint awareness and to investigate the relationship between ecological identity and ecological footprint awareness. This descriptive study was conducted between April and May 2022 with 630 volunteer adults aged 18 and over living in Turkey online via social media. Data were collected with Descriptive Form, Ecological Identity Scale (EIS), and Ecological Footprint Awareness Scale (EFAS). According to the findings obtained from the research; 63.5% of the participants were women, 39.7% were under the age of 25, and 68.6% were university or higher educated. In the Multivariate Linear Regression Analysis, it was determined that in the models adjusted for age and gender, the awareness of the food footprint and energy footprint increased as the ecological identity of Centrality increased, and the awareness of the energy footprint decreased as the ecological identity of differentiation increased. It was determined that as identity and centrality ecological identity increases, transportation and shelter, waste and water consumption footprint awareness increases, but as differentiation ecological identity decreases, transportation and shelter, waste and water consumption footprint awareness increases.
