Abstract:

The increasing number of children driven to crime requires multidisciplinary studies to be conducted on juvenile delinquency. It is necessary to implement multidimensional economic, social, and political policies and to consider the best interests of the child in the fight against juvenile delinquency. One of the areas expected to take responsibility for children driven to crime is the media. Providing accurate, impartial, and objective information on juvenile delinquency, making visible the factors driving children to crime, and publishing by considering the rights and freedoms of children are the requirements of the social responsibility and professional ethical principles of the media. The present study focused on digital media practices on juvenile delinquency and aims to provide a comprehensive analysis by including user comments in this process. In this study, which was based on Framing Theory, video news and user comments on children driven to crime in the internet media were analyzed with the Descriptive Analysis Method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. According to the study findings, it was determined that a negative framework is created for children driven to crime in digital media as well as in the traditional media. Children exposed to stigmatization are shown as a threat or an element of danger, and are made a target. User comments are parallel to news frames, and discriminatory and exclusionary hate speech are produced and circulated regarding juvenile delinquents.
