Sabahattin Ali is a versatile writer who works in the fields of novels, stories and poems, letters and theater. Sabahattin Ali developed his storytelling and novelism from observational realism to critical, even social realism. The author deals with the life of the Anatolian people from a social realist perspective in his novels and stories. The language of the author is plain. His works have autobiographical features. Traces of Realist and Naturalist movements are seen in his works. Considered one of the first successful examples of social realism, “Kuyucaklı Yusuf” is one of the author's three novels and has a social content. The novel takes place in a town in the Aegean where people from different cultures lived together in the early 1900s. Yusuf is a child whose parents were murdered by bandits and was adopted by the district governor. In the work, Yusuf's struggle with himself and his environment is explained, especially the conflicts that the district governor had in his family. The colors used in the novel are a reflection of Yusuf's struggle for survival. The yellow color is used to express those who are sick and weak from working in the novel, while red is used to express Yusuf's anger. Colors were used effectively to show the psychological and emotional background of the novel.
