Considering the place and importance of history lessons and subjects that serve as a bridge between the past, present and future in creating a national consciousness in the student, the way the subjects of the history course are taught gains importance. Teachers’ having a thorough knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the active learning approach, adopted with the advent of the constructivist approach in which the learner is included in the process at the center with a view to ensure their active participation whereas the teacher assumes the role of a guide, and their using these methods and techniques to concretize abstract history topics in class is extremely important in terms of the quality and effectiveness of the teaching process. In this direction, the aim of the study is to determine the experiences of history teachers in using active learning methods and techniques in their classes. The sample of the research consists of a total of 30 history teachers, 21 male and 9 female, working in high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Antalya in the academic year 2020-2021. The data of the research were collected within the framework of the interview form prepared by the researcher reviewing the relevant literature and taking expert opinion. The data obtained in this study, in which qualitative research method was adopted, were analyzed by using the descriptive analysis method. When the results of the study are evaluated in general, it can be stated that the history teachers who constituted the study group had basic knowledge about active learning methods and techniques, but the active learning methods and techniques they used were limited in terms of diversity and had difficulties in practice. It can be said that they confused the traditional teaching method, i.e. the "lecture" method with active learning methods and techniques and referred to them as active learning methods.
