Abstract:

In this study, the importance, value, meaning of the concept of mercy, which is the ethical value, was sought to be revealed according to the opinions of the teachers of social knowledge, what the work and activities to be done for the continuity of this concept and what the need for the concept of mercy as the ethical value. The research approach has been adopted. Research 2017–2018 educational year was completed by interviews with 15 social information teachers who work in the middle schools located in the district of Bursa or Gemlik. According to the findings of the research, most of the social knowledge teachers have defined the concept of mercy, which is ethical value, as trouble, feeling of sorrow, sadness, sadness, conscience and bold courage. The social information involved in the study stated that the concept of mercy in children and young people was morally reduced to almost all teachers. More than half of social information teachers have also expressed their opinion that mercy education is necessary in high school and that more room should be given in the lessons. Social information teachers have emphasized that ethical education begins primarily in the family, that children gain these values by taking their families a role model, and therefore this education should be given primarily in the family. In school education, they also expressed the use of student-centered methods and techniques as well as the need to give students the concept of mercy with various events such as reading books, examples of events, drama, theatre. The research suggests that the concept of mercy, which is a moral value, should be placed more in the school programmes, that value education should be taught as a separate course, that families and teachers should be in the appropriate model and cooperation to correctly translate values.
