It is necessary to know the historical development process of Turkish, which is one of the most spoken languages in the world, in order to reveal its importance and linguistic qualities. For this reason, the historical development of Turkish and its teaching from generation to generation should be examined. For these reasons, it was aimed to identify scientific studies on the historical development of Turkish teaching and to create a bibliography essay. For this purpose, qualitative research approach was adopted in the research, and document analysis was used in data analysis. Scientific studies determined as data sources were examined one by one and divided into categories. The sample of the research consists of scientific studies dealing with the historical development of Turkish teaching. As a result of the research, databases and archives such as ULAKBİM, Google Scholar, National Thesis Center, Çukurova Turkology System, electronic journals, proceedings books, electronic databases of universities were scanned and 122 for the history of teaching Turkish as a mother tongue and 24 for the history of teaching Turkish to foreigners were found in total. 136 different scientific studies were identified. It has been determined that 55 of these studies are articles, 28 are book/book chapters, 39 are thesis and 14 are papers. However, the first study on the historical development of Turkish teaching was an article published in 1970, that until 1990 this topic was not much studied, that after 2010 the research on the subject was increased compared to the previous periods, and that the historical development of Turkish teaching for foreigners was more studied in the last periods.

To point out the importance and the linguistic qualities of Turkish, which is one of the most prevalent languages in the world, it is essential to know the stages about its historical development. Therefore, it is vital to examine the historical development of Turkish, and the way it used to be taught in different generations. Therefore in this study aims to identify the scientific works about the historical development of the teaching of Turkish language and to create a bibliography. In this study adopts a qualitative approach and uses document analysis as a data analysis method. The scientific works which had been classified as the data sources were categorized and investigated separately. This study focuses on the academic works which discuss the historical development of the teaching of Turkish language. Following the research process, electronic journals, proceedings books, electronic databases and archives of universities such as ULAKBIM, Google Scholar, National Thesis Center, Çukurova Turcology System were scanned. As a result of the research, 136 different scientific studies have been found, 112 of which is about the history of the teaching of Turkish language, and the remaining 24 is about the teaching of Turkish as a foreign language. 55 of these studies are articles, 28 of them are books or chapters of books, 39 of them are theses, and 14 of them are proceedings. In addition, it was found that the first study which examines the historical development of the teaching of Turkish language was published in 1970; this issue wasn’t addressed adequately until 1990. Furthermore, it was observed that there has been an increase in the number of studies carried out with regard to the historical development of teaching Turkish as a foreign language after 2010.
