Bu çalışmanın amacı Covid-19 pandemisi sürecinde uygulanan uzaktan eğitimin ortaokul öğrencilerinin fen bilimleri dersindeki başarıları üzerindeki etkisinin öğrenci görüşleriyle birlikte incelemektir. Araştırma karma yönteme göre yürütülmüştür. Araştırma örneklemini bir ilin merkezindeki bir ortaokulda iki farklı eğitim-öğretim yılında öğrenim gören toplam 254 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Öğrencilerin akademik başarıları düzeylerini belirlemek için yazılı sınav sonuçları kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca uzaktan eğitim alan 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin uzaktan eğitim sürecine ilişkin görüşleri, açık uçlu ve çoktan seçmeli sorulardan oluşan anket formları kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Bulgular, fen bilimleri dersini yüz yüze eğitimle alan öğrencilerin ders başarılarının uzaktan eğitim yoluyla ders alan öğrencilerden yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca fen bilimleri dersini 5. ve 6. sınıfta yüz yüze, 7. sınıfta uzaktan eğitimle alan aynı öğrencilerin ders başarılarının, sınıf düzeyi arttıkça azaldığı tespit edilmiştir. Öğrenci görüşlerine göre EBA öğrencilerin uzaktan eğitim sürecinde fen bilimleri dersini takip ettikleri en önemli platform olmuştur. Ancak araştırma sonuçları, öğrencilerin çoğunlukla fen derslerinin uzaktan eğitim yoluyla işlenmesine yönelik olumsuz algıya sahip olduklarını göstermiştir. Bununla birlikte öğrencilerin neredeyse tamamı uzaktan eğitimdense yüz yüze eğitimi tercih etmiştir. Ayrıca öğrenciler karma modeli, sadece uzaktan eğitime göre daha fazla tercih etmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin uzaktan eğitim sürecinde yaşadıkları problemleri çözmelerinde en önemli destekçileri aileler olmuştur. Sonuçlar öğrencilerin uzaktan eğitim sürecinden yeterli verimi elde edemediğini ortaya koymuştur.
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of distance education applied during the Covid-19 pandemic on the success students in science, together with student opinions. The research was carried out according to the mixed method. The sample of the research consisted of 254 students studying in a secondary school in the center of a city in two different academic years. Written exam results were used to determine the students’ success levels. In addition, the views of 7th grade students on the distance education process were obtained by using survey consisting of open-ended and multiple-choice questions. The findings showed that the success of the students who took the science course with face-to-face education was higher than the students who took the course through distance education. In addition, it was determined that the success of the same students who took the science course face-to-face in the 5th and 6th grades and distance education in the 7th grade decreased as the grade level increased. According to student opinions, EBA has been the most important platform where students follow the science course in the distance education process. However, the results of the research showed that students mostly have a negative perception towards teaching science lessons through distance education. However, almost all of the students preferred face-to-face education rather than distance education. In addition, students preferred the mixed model more than just distance education. Families have been the most important supporters of students in solving the problems they experience during the distance education process. The results revealed that the students could not get enough efficiency from the distance education process.
