Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the barriers and factors affecting the utilization of the research results in clinical practice. Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study was done with the help of 136 nurses who worked at a university hospital and agreed to take part. The data was collected using the “Information Form” and the “Barriers to Research Utilization Scale”. Results: It was found that 86.0% of the nurses were female, the mean age was 30.79±6.20 years, and 54.4% were undergraduate students. Of the nurses, 48.5% knew a foreign language, 53.7% chose their department voluntarily, and 20.6% were members of an occupational association. The nurses’ “Barriers to Research Utilization Scale” mean score was 1.81±0.74. The most significant barriers to nurses using study results were a lack of time to read the research (65.4%), a lack of authority to change patient procedures (39.0%), a lack of time to implement new ideas (38.2%), and the research was generally published in a foreign language (37.5%). It was found that nurses had trouble putting most research findings to use, especially in their clinical work. Nurses in graduate programs, who chose the department voluntarily, spoke foreign languages and were members of any occupational associations had a high level of perception of research barriers (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that nurses faced barriers to implementing research findings in practice. It is recommended that managers raise nurses’ awareness of following up-to-date or evidence-based research results and using these results in clinical practice during the orientation process and in-service training programs.
