Abstract:

This study was conducted to determine the awareness levels of associate degree students studying at a state university in the Aegean Region about environmental problems. The study was conducted with 226 students. In the study conducted with 226 students, the data were collected with a questionnaire consisting of the individual introduction section and the Awareness Scale for Environmental Problems. The average age of the students is 20.11 ± 1.85, 77% of them are women and 67.3% are first year students. 25.7% are studying in Medical Laboratory Techniques, 24.8% in First and Emergency Aid, and 23.9% in Dialysis program. 63.3% of the students did not have any training on environment. The mean score of the Awareness Scale for Environmental Problems was found to be 57.82 ± 8.49. A significant difference was found between the class variable and the application, synthesis and evaluation factors. In the implementation factor, the mean scores of the second grade students are higher than the first grade students. In the Synthesis and Evaluation factor, the average score of the first year students is higher than the second year students. A significant difference was found between the program variable and the knowledge factor. Dialysis-Office Management and Executive Assistant (p = 0.019), First and Emergency Aid-Child Development (p = 0.002), First and Emergency Aid- Office Management and Executive Assistant (p = 0.000), Medical Laboratory Techniques-Office Management and Manager It was determined that there is a significant difference between the assistantship (p = 0.015) programs. A moderate positive correlation was found in the comparison of the scale and the factors. In the study, the Awareness of the Students about Environmental Problems was found above the average. This value varies according to the class of the students and the associate degree program they study.
