Pain is an unpleasant, emotional and sensory experience arising from any part of the body, associated with a possible tissue damage, and covers all the past experiences of the individual. It is personality and the pain perception, definition and tolerance vary greatly from person to person. Pain control is important forindividual relief, increase of life quality, reduce of complications and shorten of the duration of hospitalization. Today, being a complementary and integrative treatment method, acupressure has been found to be effective in pain management. Acupressure is an ancient healing art using the fingers to gradually press key healing points, which stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. The purpose of acupressure in pain control is to reduce the use of analgesics and improve the level of life quality by eliminating the patient's pain as much as possible. However, there is not enough literature on the efficacy of acupressure treatment in relieving pain in our country. In this compiled study, the up-to-date information regarding acupressure application and its use as an integrative application in pain management is summarized.
