Abstract:

Publications that elucidate the multifaceted role of food beyond mere sustenance, highlighting its significant influence in comprehending our social, political, and economic environment, have gained momentum under the realm of "culinary studies" over the past decade in Turkey and since the 1980s in the world. Presently, we are witnessing the emergence of sociological, political, and economic examinations of food as subjects of academic discourse and research in sociology and political science departments, alongside courses that frequently establish connections between food and culture in gastronomy departments both nationally and internationally. Moreover, apart from this academic and popular interest, food manifests itself as a practical solution within social life, particularly during times of crisis. In addition to reviewing relevant literature that unveils the various dimensions of the food relationship, this article also engenders a discussion on the impacts of the 6th and 20th February Earthquakes on Antakya and its culinary culture.
