The purpose of this study is to study the forms of communication of high school students according to their participation in non-class activities studies. In the study, it was also tried to determine whether there is a difference based on gender factor. The study was conducted in the 2017-2018 educational year with the participation of 593 (age=16.25±1.15) high school students in the Denizli province center. To determine the communication forms of high school students, developed by Norton (1983) and adapted by Dursun and Aydin (2011) to Turkish, the "Communications Forms Scale" was used by researchers to collect personal information and data about the independent variables of research. In the analysis of the data, two-way variance analysis was used. The study examined the conditions of participation of high school students in non-class activities; the differences between the forms of communication of the students who participated in physical education and sports studies and other studies (excellence, public games and beauty arts) and the forms of communication of the high school students who did not participate in any non-class activities. Students who participate in non-class events have been determined to use more influential, relevant, dramatic and open forms of communication than students who do not participate in any non-class events. When studied on the gender factor, it was observed that girls use more relevant, uninterpreted and dominant forms of communication than boys, while boys use more interactive image and controversial forms of communication than boys. As a result, students who participate in out-of-class events can be said that they accept the factors of effective communication in their communication forms compared to those who do not participate and less use the negative.
The purpose of this study is to analyze communicator styles of high school students in terms of their participation in extracurricular activities. Furthermore, whether there is a difference in terms of gender factor is tried to be determined in the study. The research study was done with the attendance of 593 (age=16.25±1.15) high school students in the city center of Denizliin 2017-2018academic year. In the study, ‘’Scale ofCommunication Styles’’ developed by Norton(1983), also adopted to Turkish by Dursunand Aydın (2011) to determine communicator styles of high school students and ‘’Personal Information Form’’ prepared by the researchers to collect data about personal information and independent variables, were used. In the analyses of data, two-way ANOVAand confirmatory factor analysis wereused. When the situation of high school students’ participation in extracurricular activities was investigated, it was seen that there were differences between communicator styles of students participating in physical education and sports activities,as well as the students participating in other activities(scouting, folk dances, and fine arts)and communicator styles of students not participating in extracurricular activities. It was seen that the students participating in extracurricular activities used impression leaving, attentive, dramatic, opencommunicator styles more than the students not participating in extracurricular activities. When the communicator styles were investigated in terms of gender factor, the girls used much more attentive, animated and dominant communicator styles than the boys, and the boys used more argumentative andcommunicator image factors than the girls. As a result, it can be said that the students participating in extracurricular activities adopteffective communication oriented factors for their communicator styles more than the student not participating in extracurricular activities and they use less negative communicator styles than the ones not participating in extracurricular activities.
