Abstract:

According to Ministry of Health of Republic of Turkey data, the first case of Covid-19 in Turkey was reported on March 11, 2020. In the epidemic context, Turkey has implemented priority public health measures. It was decided to suspend education at public and private universities for three weeks, in primary and secondary schools for a week, and continue distance learning in the future in order to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the country. The aforementioned decision came into force and began to be implemented on March 16, 2020. Since the relevant date, educational activities have been carried out both synchronously and asynchronously via the internet within the framework of decisions adopted by the senates of the universities. In the context of the implementation of the measures taken by Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, which has the infrastructure of the distance education system, it became possible to immediately organize training courses synchronously and asynchronously. Without interruption Russian language courses with the status of optional foreign language at Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Tourism of VYYU were conducted asynchronously and synchronously. In this study, as part of educational activities conducted by VYYU during the pandemic, a questionnaire was used to measure the effectiveness of asynchronous / synchronous Russian courses in the academic years 2019-2020 (spring) and 2020-2021 (fall), data analysis which made it possible to identify the difficulties that students face in this process, to determine the adaptive mechanisms and success of students in the process of distance learning of Russian language. The aim of the study is to reveal the factors affecting the adaptation and success of students in the Russian language lessons in the process of distance learning. In addition, the author set herself the task of determining whether the general courses of the departments, which were chosen by students, and the courses of the Russian language differ in demographic characteristics. The analysis of the findings obtained as a result of the research was performed with the IBM SPSS program V22.0.
