Abstract:

The Turkish Revolution, which took place under the leadership of Atatürk, is the name of the process of establishing a new state and society in and after a war of independence and carrying them to the modern civilization with a new identity. The Kemalist revolution had a tense relationship with the existing national culture in the process of creating a new Turkish identity and realizing Turkish modernization. This tense process has taken place by feeding off of controlled and ideological attitudes rather than natural cultural changes. Changing the alphabet, applying a new legal law, socio-economic practices that used by the contemporary world, as well as practices that disable or interfere with the traditional Islamic belief and lifestyle have brought with it. While identity, history, language and culture have been reinterpreted and shaped in the aim of reaching contemporary civilization, cultural change has led to deep splits, conflicts and closures in the social structure. This study tries to understand the nature of the cultural changes experienced in this process and to make a critical evaluation, to determine the situation in today's conditions.
