This study were planned to determine if the occupational safety of health personnel working in state hospitals was obtained. The study was conducted with 522 nurses, 232 physicians and 271 other healthcare personnel working in state hospitals. Data was gathered in February 2010 with a 45-item occupational safety scale for hospitals and a questionnaire composed of 15 questions regarding demographic characteristics and occupational safety.. In findings, all of the healthcare personnel stated that the occupational accidents and diseases were rare in their hospitals. However, 34% of nurses, 30% of physicians and other healthcare personnel applied to the patient and their relatives verbal violence regarding occupational accidents, and 27% nurses had cancer and 21% physicians and other healthcare personnel experienced sleep disorders regarding occupational diseases. According to the total scale, all of the health personnel stated that the occupational safety was obtained in their hospital (4.05±1.01), but occupational diseases and problems (3.16±1.31), managerial support and approach level (3.40±1.35) was not obtained. In addition, physicians found occupational safety more insufficient (p<0.05). In conclusion, occupational safety in hospitals was obtained, whereas there were occupational diseases and problems and managers did not provide enough support as requested.
