Fransız filozof Albert Camus’nun 1947’de yayımlanan ‘Veba” adlı romanında, salgınla boğuşan bir şehrin halkının yaşadığı psikososyal süreçler anlatılmaktadır. Cezayir’in liman şehri Oran’da önce fareler topluca ölmeye başlar. İlk başta bunun kötü bir şaka olduğu düşünülür ve pek önemsenmez. Sonra, veba insanlara bulaşsa da neredeyse hiç kimse bunun bir salgın olduğunu kabullenemez. Günlük ölüm sayısının artmasıyla birlikte Dr. Rieux önderliğinde, bir toplantı yapılır ve bu toplantıda salgının resmen kabul edilmesiyle birlikte sosyal dayanışma zinciri kurulur. Böylece salgınla mücadele dönemine girilir, ancak alınan ilk önlemler yetersiz kaldığından her geçen gün ölü sayısı artmaya devam etmektedir. Bunun üzerine önlemler daha da sıklaştırılır ve karantina uygulaması hayata geçirilir. Karantina döneminden sonra, insanlar, en sevdiklerini göremedikleri gibi öldüklerinde de cenaze törenine dahi katılamazlar. Çaresizce salgının bitmesini bekleyen insanlar, ölüm, ayrılık gibi aynı duyguları yaşadıklarından adeta aynı kaderi paylaşırlar. Artık romanda salgın ortak bir yazgı olarak nitelendirilmektedir. Bu süreçlerin benzeri günümüzde pandemi sürecinde de yaşanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada romandaki endemi süreciyle günümüzdeki pandemi sürecinde yaşanan psikososyal süreçler birbirleriyle karşılaştırılmış ve çalışmanın sonunda romanda yaşanan süreçlerin birçoğunun günümüzde de yaşandığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda değerlendirildiğinde zamanın hatta olanakların ve koşulların farklı olmasına rağmen günümüzdeki insanların da, daha önce yaşamış insanlar gibi benzer süreçleri yaşadıkları ve bu nedenle daha önceki çağlarda yaşamış insanlar ile benzer veya aynı hislere sahip oldukları tespit edilmiştir.
In the 1947 novel "Veba" by French philosopher Albert Camus, the psychosocial processes in which the people of a epidemic town live. In the port city of Algeria, Oran, mice begin to die collectively. At first it was thought to be a bad joke and it doesn’t matter much. Then, even if the virus is infected with people, almost no one can admit that it is an epidemic. With the increase in daily deaths, a meeting is held under the leadership of Dr. Rieux and a chain of social solidarity is established with the official acceptance of the epidemic. Thus, the epidemic is entering the fight period, but the number of deaths continues to increase every day since the first measures are not sufficient. The measures will then become more rigorous and the application of the quarantine will be implemented. After the quarantine period, people can’t even attend the funeral when they die, as they can’t see their loved ones. People who desperately wait for the end of the epidemic, because they experience the same feelings as death, separation, share the same fate. Now in the novel the epidemic is described as a common writing. This is the case in the pandemic process today. In this study, the psychosocial processes that occur in the current pandemic process with the endemic process in the novel have been compared to each other, and the study has found that many of the processes that occur in the novel are occurring in the present day. In this context, although the time and even the possibilities and conditions are different, it has been found that today’s people are experiencing similar processes as people who have lived before and therefore have similar or similar feelings as people who have lived in previous ages.
