Günümüzde Suriye iç savaşı nedeni ile sıkça adını duyduğumuz Halep şehri, stratejik konumundan dolayı tarih boyunca Doğu Akdeniz-Anadolu- Arap Yarımadası- Mısır- İran coğrafyaları ile etkileşim içerisinde olmuştur. Bu konum onun siyasi kaderi kadar ekonomik durumunu da belirlemiştir. Bölgede etkin olan devletlerin bir biri ile mücadelesi şehrin ticari ve ekonomik durumunu doğrudan etkilemiştir. İslam-Bizans mücadeleleri, Fatimilerin bölgede hakimiyet kurma çabaları, yerel Arap emirliklerinin mücadeleleri Orta Çağ’da Halep’in ticari ve ekonomik durumunu olumsuz yönde etkilemiştir. Selçuklu sultanı Melikşah’ın Suriye seferi sonucunda Türklerin hakim olduğu şehir özellikle ilk Selçuklu Valisi Kasımu’d-devle Aksungur’un almış olduğu tedbirler sayesinde ticari potansiyeline yeniden kavuşmuştur. Her ne kadar Haçlı Seferlerinden bu yönü ile olumsuz bir şekilde etkilenmiş olsa da, Selçuklu hakimiyet dönemi şehirde ticaret hayatının canlandığı bunun sonucu olarak da şehir ekonomisinin ve fiziki yapısının geliştiği bir dönem olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır.
Today, the city of Aleppo, which we often hear its name because of the Syrian Civil War, has been in interaction with the Eastern Mediterranean-Anadolu-Arab Peninsula-Egypt-Iran geographics throughout history due to its strategic position. This position determined his political fate as well. The struggle with one of the states active in the region has directly affected the city’s commercial and economic situation. The Islam-Bisans struggles, the efforts of the Fatima to dominate the region, the struggles of the local Arab Emirates have negatively affected the commercial and economic situation of Aleppo in the Middle Ages. The city where the Turks dominate as a result of Selçuklu Sultan Melikshah's visit to Syria has regained its commercial potential thanks to the measures taken by the first Selçuklu Governor Kasımu'd-devle Aksungur. Although the Crusaders have been negatively affected by this aspect, the Selçuklu domination period is a period in which the trade life in the city is revived as a result of the development of the city economy and physical structure.

The Islamic-Byzantine struggles, the attempts of the Fatimids to domanite the region, and the struggles of the local Arab Emirates negatively affected the commercial and economic situation of Aleppo in Middle Ages. As a result of the Syrian expedition of the Seljuk Sultan Melikshah, the city, dominated by the Turkish, regained its commercial potential especially thanks to the measures taken by the first Seljuk Governer Kasımu’d-devle Ak Sungur. Although it was negatively affected by the Crusades in this aspect, The Seljuk domination period emerged as e period when the commercial life of the city revived and as a result, the city’s economic and physical structure enhanced.
