Özet:

Rural tourism is a variety of tourism based on rural settlements and natural resources. The importance of tourism in developing countries is increasing every day because it provides many positive benefits in the development of rural areas. The U.S., which has a great importance for the tourism industry, focuses on the use of rural tourism for the country’s tourism resuscitation (Honadle, 1990). Rural tourism, along with other alternative tourism varieties, can be achieved by meeting the increasing expectations of tourists every day, but the staff that will provide the appropriate service can be provided by receiving adequate quality tourism training. This is the reason why the countries give importance to tourism from the importance they give to tourism education. In this study prepared, the study of the courses included in the curriculum of the state and foundation universities providing tourism education at the bachelor level in Turkey is aimed at determining and evaluating the place and importance of rural tourism in the tourism education given at the bachelor level. In accordance with this objective, in the framework of the identification of the faculties and universities that provide tourism education at the level of license, the document analysis technique was applied in the study on the assessment of the data obtained by accessing the 2018 program and content guide on the official website of the ÖSYM and the curriculum programs on the corporate websites of the associated universities of the YÖK. According to the study, among the 51 universities that provide tourism education at the bachelor level, rural tourism and rural tourism related courses are only in the curriculum of the departments of tourism and accommodation business and there are only 2 universities where these courses are taught. According to this, the conclusion has been achieved that the universities that provide tourism education at the bachelor level in Turkey have not provided adequate education for rural tourism. The increase in the number of courses related to rural tourism and rural tourism in the curriculum of the university institutions that provide tourism education is among the recommendations that can be given regarding this study prepared, the courses aimed at other varieties of tourism in the tourism faculty and higher education and similar studies in the name of whether education is given or not.

Rural tourism is a type of tourism based on rural settlements and natural resources. As it provides many positive benefits for the development of rural areas in developing countries, its importance is increasing day by day. The United States, which attaches great importance to the tourism industry, emphasizes the use of rural tourism for the revitalization of the country in terms of tourism (Honadle, 1990). Together with rural tourism, it is only possible to meet the increasing expectations of the tourists for other alternative tourism types only by receiving adequate tourism training from the personnel who will provide the appropriate service. For this reason, the importance that countries attach to tourism starts from the importance they attach to tourism education. Prepared in this study, in Turkey at the graduate level tourism education that the state and the foundations examined in terms of university courses rural programs in the courses tourism, the location of rural tourism at the undergraduate level in the tourism education and is aimed to evaluate identified the importance. For this purpose, using the document analysis technique within the scope of identifying the faculties and schools which provide tourism education at the undergraduate level, the data obtained by accessing the programs obtained from the 2018 program and quota guide on the official website of ÖSYM and the course programs on the corporate web sites of the universities of YÖK. content analysis technique was applied in the study. Within the scope of the study, it was found that among 51 universities providing tourism education at the undergraduate level, the courses related to rural tourism and rural tourism were only included in the courses of tourism management and accommodation management departments and there were only 2 universities where these courses were taught. Accordingly, the results are not given sufficient training to rural tourism, tourism education at the undergraduate level in universities in Turkey has reached. Increasing the number of courses related to rural tourism and rural tourism in the curriculums of university institutions providing tourism education, and similar studies on whether other alternative tourism types and courses are offered in tourism faculties and schools are among the suggestions that can be given for this study.
