Bu çalışma üniversiteli gençlerin konum bazlı sosyal paylaşım ağlarını kullanım pratikleriyle, sosyalleşme ve kimlik inşası süreçlerinde bu ağlarının rolünü analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Karma desenin benimsendiği bu çalışmada, nicel ve nitel araştırma yöntemi bir arada kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi ve Anadolu Üniversitesi’nden seçilen toplam altı fakültede Swarm kullanıcısı 240 öğrenci ile anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Nicel veriler, SPSS programında frekansları alınarak ve Ki kare analizi kullanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Ek olarak, anket uygulanan öğrenciler arasından seçilen 13 öğrenci ile de yarı yapılandırılmış derinlemesine görüşme yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda konum bazlı sosyal ağların, kullanıcıların sosyalleşme biçimlerini farklılaştırmada ve kimliklerini oluşturmada önemli rol oynadığı görülmektedir. Ayrıca, katılımcıların çoğunun yer bildirimleriyle yaratmaya çalıştıkları kimlikle çevrimdışındaki kimliklerinin tezahürü olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.
This study aims to analyze the role of these networks in the processes of socialization and identity building with the practices of using the location-based social sharing networks of university youth. In this study in which the karma pattern was adopted, the qualitative and qualitative research method was used together. In the study, an survey was conducted with 240 students from the Swarm user in a total of six faculties selected from Eskişehir Osmangazi University and Anadolu University. Nicel data is analyzed by taking frequencies in the SPSS program, using cross-table and Ki frame analysis. In addition, a half-structured deep interview was conducted with 13 students selected among the surveyed students. The study found that location-based social networks have played an important role in differentiating users’ forms of socialization and creating their identities. Moreover, it was revealed that most participants are the manifestation of their identity outside of the identity that they try to create with their location statements.
This study aims to analyze the role of location-based social networking practices, socialization and identity building processes of university youth students. The data was collected and analysed with quantitative and qualitative research methods. Questionnaires were administered to 240 university students of Anadolu and Osmangazi University in Eskişehir. Quantitative data was analysed by using frequency calculation on SPSS program and Chi-square analysis. Additionally, semi-structured detailed interviews were conducted with 13 students among the students who completed the questionnaire. The study revealed that social networks based on location have an important role in identity construction and diversifying ways of getting socialized. Moreover, the on-line identities most participants are trying to construct via checking-in are reflection of their off-line identities.
