Defined as an ability of understanding and questioning with emotions, assimilating emotions within thinking and regulating emotions in self and in others; the concept of “Emotional Intelligence” is of particular importance for healthcare professionals. In this study, emotional intelligence levels of hospital employees were examined on the basis of lower dimensions. Whether or not there was any significant difference between emotional intelligence levels of the employees according to demographic elements was analyzed. The study comprises employees working in nurse and midwife occupational groups in a training and research hospital in the city center of Corum. Data were collected using a questionnaire including 4 lower dimensions and a total of 27 questions. Emotional intelligence levels of the participants were measured via Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS). In the study which was implemented with the participation of 278 healthcare professionals, emotional intelligence levels of the participants were determined on the basis of lower dimensions and whether or not those levels significantly differed was examined according to demographic variables. The analyses were performed with the SPSS version 22.0. As a result of the study, it was determined that emotional intelligence levels of the nurses and midwives did not significantly differ according to the variables of gender, task, type of employment and level of income. On the other hand; it was determined that demographic characteristics such as marital status, professional experience and age groups caused significant differences in emotional intelligence levels of the nurses and midwives.
