Abstract Population aging is one of the greatest achievements that humanity has achieved in contemporary times; but the increasing number of elderly people imposes an urgent challenge for national and foreign policies and strategies, in order to satisfy their needs and offer them the possibility of living their last years with an excellent quality of life. In this sense, a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, with the purpose of identifying the meanings that the directors of the health sector, in the City of Havana, attribute to the aging process of the Cuban population. For this, the study was It was based on the qualitative methodology, carrying out 15 in-depth interviews with managers of the health sector, directly linked to the care of people aged 60 and over. Among the main results, it was found that the meaning that aging has for the managers of the health sector in the City of Havana translates as a stage of life in which there are deficiencies and needs in socio-family, economic, and social terms. of health, where the fundamental thing is to take into consideration the real and felt needs of people aged 60 and over for the elaboration of health policies, programs and strategies
