The aim of the study is to investigate action research studies in the field of early childhood education (ECE). Within the scope of the study, a total of 47 publications, including 33 theses and 14 articles, were examined using the systematic review method. The research data was collected through a form developed by the researchers based on the research questions and thematically analyzed. It is seen that the first publication in the field of ECE was in 2011. Keywords that cover the subject and/or content information are used most frequently in research. In addition, the most used action research method is “technical/ collaborative/ scientific action research.” In addition, observation and interview techniques were used in almost all the action research examined. The sample of the studies is generally determined by the purposeful sampling method. Besides, it is seen that most of these studies employed children as participants. The data analysis methods of the studies are generally content analysis and/or thematic analysis. It is seen that the number of action research studies specifying the research cycle is in the minority. The validity and reliability studies conducted in the reviewed studies are many and varied. Studies adopt objectives to improve an existing situation such as “sharing/examining/revealing the knowledge and experiences obtained from the processes of the application and the program”, “researching/examining the efficiency and applicability of the program/application”, and “reducing behavioral disorders”. When the results of the studies are evaluated according to their aims, the results of almost all of the studies show that the targeted aim within the scope of the study has been achieved
