Personal development is the process related to that self-educating responsibility of individuals are installed by themselves and they show personal effort requiring for this responsibility in the extent of the possibilities in their whole life. The purpose of this study is to reveal the pre-service teachers‟ perception about personal development and efforts intended for personal development. According to views of preservice teachers, their perceptions and efforts for personal development was tried to identify in the study. The population of the study; dealt with the survey model, is composed of pre-service teachers studying at Education Faculty of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in 2011-2012 academic year. Questionnaire; prepared for putting forth the pre-service teachers‟ perceptions and efforts about personal development, was used as a data collection tool of the study. As a result of the analysis, pre-service teachers‟ admitting level to the importance of behaviors intended for personal development is high but behaviors for personal development are not manifested by them at the same rate. Additionally, most important and most exhibit personal development dimension is the moral-spiritual development dimension according to pre-service teachers and the least important personal development dimension is social development dimension. Also, there is a significant difference between male and female pre-service teachers in terms of admitting level to the importance of behaviors intended for personal development and performing behaviors for personal development and female pre-service teachers have more positive approach about that. Behaviors for personal development are admitted by pre-service teachers as important that is noteworthy for the future of education system. However, the situation of displaying behaviors for personal development is not at the same rate. A favorable environment will be needed to create by universities and academic staff in terms of performing behaviors for personal development of pre-service teachers.
