The Stories in the Qur’an are of significance both in terms of the events they narrate and due to their style and activity of narrating. They become stories not only due to their reference to the events they narrate but also (perhaps more so) in terms of their power of re-shaping and re-making the events meaningful within their style and activity of narrating, The purpose of this paper is to try to make some remarks on the style and activity of stories in the Qur’an from the perspective of the question: “What is the meaning of the Qur’anic stories as stories?” The basic claim of this paper is as follows: The stories in the Qur’an represent the fundamental level of meaning in the Qur’an and show that Islam is a religion of event and activity.
