Günümüzde Doğu ve Güney Doğu Anadolu bölgesi olarak isimlendirilen coğrafya, geçmişte yoğun bir Keldani nüfusunu barındırmıştır. Ancak 1915 yılında Ermenilere yönelik alınan ‘tehcir’ kararı, Keldanileri de etkilemiş ve Keldanilerin çoğu bu bölgedeki yerlerini terk etmek zorunda kalmışlardır. Keldanilerin çok az bir kısmı daha sonra köylerine geri dönerek burada yaşamaya devam etmişlerdir. Keldanilerin bölgedeki varlıkları 1990’lı yıllara kadar devam etmiştir. Ancak söz konusu dönemde bölgedeki terör olayları başta olmak üzere farklı saiklerle Keldaniler buradan göç etmek zorunda kalmışlardır. İstanbul ve bazı Avrupa ülkelerine yerleşen Keldanilerin bir kısmı 2000’li yıllarda eski köylerine tekrar yerleşmeye başlamışlardır. Bu tarihi süreçte sürekli Müslümanlarla sosyo-kültürel münasebet içerisinde olmalarına rağmen Türkiye’de Keldaniler ile ilgili yapılmış akademik çalışma sayısı yok denecek kadar azdır. Buradan hareketle Türkiye toplumunun Keldaniler hakkındaki malumatının oldukça sınırlı olduğunu ifade edebiliriz. Bu düşünceden hareketle Şırnak ve çevresinde yer alan 9 tane Keldani köyünü merkeze alarak, buradaki Keldaniler ile görüşmeler gerçekleştirdik. Böylece Keldanilerin tarihi, dini ve kültürel yapılarını ortaya koymayı hedefledik. Bunun yanı sıra Keldanilerin yüzyıllar boyunca birlikte yaşadıkları Müslüman komşuları ile ilişkilerine de mercek tutarak Müslüman-Keldani ilişkilerini ortaya koymaya çalıştık.
The geography, now called the East and Southeast Anadolu region, has hosted a intense Keldani population in the past. But the 'threatening' decision made to the Armenians in 1915 affected the Keldans, and most of the Keldans were forced to leave their places in this area. Few of the towns have later returned to their villages and lived here. The existence of the Keldans in the region continued until the 1990s. However, in this period, the terrorist events in the region, primarily with different faces, have been forced to migrate from here. Some of the Keldans settled in Istanbul and some European countries began to settle back in their old villages in the 2000s. Although they are constantly in social and cultural relationships with Muslims in this historical process, the number of academic studies made in Turkey on the Keldanians is not enough to be lost. From here we can express that the knowledge of the Turkish society about the Keldanians is quite limited. With this thought move, we took the center of the 9 Keldani villages located in Şırnak and around, and held conversations with the Keldani here. Thus, we aim to reveal the historical, religious and cultural structures of the Keldans. In addition, we tried to reveal their relationships with Muslim neighbors with whom the Keldans lived together for centuries.
The geography, named as the region of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia today, had a large number of Chaldean inhabitants in the past. However, the deportation decision taken against Armenians in 1915 also influenced the Chaldeans and most of the Chaldeans were obliged to leave their residential areas in this region. Afterwards, small number of the Chaldeans returned to their villages and continued to live in the region. They were present in the region until the 1990s. However, they were obliged to migrate from the region due to diverse reasons, especially the terrorist incidents in the region in the mentioned period. Some of the Chaldeans who lived in Istanbul and some European countries initiated to resettle in their old villages in the 2000s. Academic works done on these Chaldeans in Turkey are almost nonexistent although they had continuous socio-cultural relations with Muslims in this historical process. For this reason, we can state that the Turkey’s society has rather limited knowledge about them. Starting from this viewpoint, we conducted interviews with the Chaldeans living in the nine Chaldean villages in Şırnak and its vicinity. Thus, we intended to reveal their historical, religious and cultural structures. In addition, we sought to illuminate their relations with the Muslim neighbors with whom they lived together for centuries.
