Resim sanatı geleneği içinde 17. yüzyıl janr resmi ve ev konulu resimlerin önemli bir yer kapladığı bir yüzyıl olmuştur. Janr (gündelik hayat resmi) denildiğinde de akla gelen en büyük ustalardan biri de Hollanda'lı ressam Jan Steen'dir. Toplumsal kuralları ev ve iç mekan görünümleri üzerinden nükteli bir biçimde eleştiren Steen, 21. yüzyılın önemli sanatçılarından biri olan Julie Blackmon'a da ilham kaynağı olmuştur. Blackmon, Steen'den aldığı referanslarla çok çocuklu bir modern zaman annesinin yaşadığı zorluk ve çelişkileri göz alıcı fotoğraflarıyla izleyici ile buluşturur. Bu çalışma her iki sanatçıyı izlek, kompozisyon, kurgu yapısı ve tema bağlamında karşılaştırarak ev kavramı ve domestik hayat konusu üzerinde duracak, bunu yaparken de sanatçıların eleştirel yaklaşımını irdelemeye çalışacaktır. Toplumsal kural ve normların birey üzerinde yarattığı baskı ve kaçış isteği yine bu iki sanatçının öznel penceresinden tanımlanmaya çalışılacaktır.
In 17. century; genre painting had reserved a great place throughout the entire painting tradition. when it comes to genre painting, Dutch painter Jan Steen was one of the most memorable of his time. He is the main inspiration with his ironic genre paintings for Julie Blackmon who is one of the most significant artist of 21. century. Blackmon brings the conflicts and complexity of an modern mom of three together with audience in her fancy works by means of referances that she borrows from Steen.
