Üniversite eğitimi işiten ve işitme engelli öğrenciler için mesleki gelişimleri açısından önemli adımlardan biridir. Araştırmalarda işitme engelli gençlerin okuma yazma eğitimi için hazırlanan eğitim ortamlarının anlamlı, işlevsel ve amaçlı olmasının önemi belirtilmektedir. İşitme engellilerin mesleki eğitim programlarında dil ve okuma yazma becerilerinin önemi vurgulanmalıdır. Okuma yazma öğretimi yaklaşımları arasında Dengeli Okuma Yazma Öğretimi’nin işitme engellilerin de okuma-yazma ihtiyaçlarına yanıt verdiği ve mesleki eğitim programının ilkeleriyle uyumlu olduğu görülmektedir. Bu makalede eğitim programının öğeleri dikkate alınarak işitme engelli bireyler için hazırlanacak mesleki eğitim programlarına yönelik öneriler sunulmaktadır. Bu önerilerin ülkemizde ve yurtdışında işitme engellilere yönelik mesleki eğitim programlarının hazırlanmasında yararlı olacağı düşünülmektedir.

College education is one of the important steps for professional development for both normally developing and hearing impaired students. Recent research has provided evidences that hearing impaired individuals get benefits from the literacy instructions providing students meaningful, functional and purposeful literacy environments. The educational programs designed for hearing impaired students’ professional development must stress the importance of language and literacy skills. Based on the research it has been reported that among the literacy instruction approaches the Balanced Literacy Instructional Approach has been proved to be beneficial for the literacy skills of hearing impaired students and seems to match with the principles of vocational education. In this paper the recommendations of a vocational program for hearing impaired individuals concerning the components of an educational program have been provided. It is expected that these recommendations would be beneficial for vocational programs of hearing impaired students in and abroad the country.
