The aim of this study was to examine sample lesson plans in Selim Sırrı Bey’s books, to compare between past and present and to assess the heritage of physical education which remains from the past. In this study, document investigation which is a kind of qualitative research approach, was used and the primary sources -especially Selim Sırrı Bey’s books- dating back to subjected years are benefited. In II. Constitutional Period, contrary to many difficulties educational issues were discussed and modernization efforts were taken. In this period, physical education took over responsibility to create productive and robust generation. Many exercises which are used in the past still take place (especially order execises, running, exercises which work out different parts of the body, games) in physical education teaching. However, some practices don’t apply in modern physical education understanding. Although sport practices hadn’t been used too much in the past, today sport practices are often used in order to achieve the objectives of physical education. The most specific feature of physical education transformation is shifted teacher-based approach to an active process in which learner attend and learner configure learning process.
