Abstract:

In the classical Turkish poetry, animals are placed in various occasions. Since the sea is an important image for the poets, the sea animals are also often mentioned in poems. Fish have a distinct importance in these marine animals. In this study we explored how the fish were addressed in the classical Turkish poetry. Our work is made up of one entrance and four main parts. In the introduction section, the view of the Ottoman society to the fish and its reflection to the poetry were evaluated. In the first part, we discussed the affairs in which the lover is in the position of the fish, and in the second part, we discussed the poet’s assessments about the fish. In the third part, some comparisons and characteristics related to fish are listed in the classical Turkish poem. In the fourth part, there are some species of fish in the classical Turkish poetry.
