Türk edebiyatının hatırat türünde ilk örneği olan Bâburname’de (Vekayî) gezip görülen yerler ve bu yerlere ilişkin bilgiler verilmiştir. Ömrü savaşlar ve fetihlerle geçen Bâbur, başından geçenleri bu eserinde her yönüyle gözler önüne sermiştir. Eser, Bâbur’un bizzat kendisi tarafından kaleme alınmış olması yönüyle de büyük bir değere sahiptir. Eserinde Bâbur, samimi bir üslupla dönemin yaşam tarzını yansıtmış ve aynı zamanda kendinden bahsederek yer yer otobiyografik bir yaklaşım sergilemiştir. Fergana, Kabil ve Hindistan olarak üç bölümde kaleme alınan eser 5 Ramazan 899’da (10 Haziran 1494) başlar ve 3 Muharrem 936’da (7 Eylül 1529) sona erer. Bâburnâme veya Vekayi adıyla bilinen eser Çağatay edebiyatının şaheserleri arasında yerini almıştır. Almanca, İngilizce, Rusça gibi pek çok dünya diline çevrilen eser XV. yüzyıl sonu ile XVI. yüzyıl başında Orta Asya, Afganistan ve Hindistan hakkında önemli bilgileri içermektedir. Bu bilgiler içerisinde yer yer köken bilgisi açıklamalarına yer verilmiştir. Bir sözün gerçek anlamını öğrenmek amacıyla yapılan köken bilgisi çalışmalarının Bâburname’de ilgi çekici örneklerine rastlanmıştır. Bu yapılan köken bilgisi açıklamalarının bazıları halk köken bilgisi diyebileceğimiz nitelikte ve bazıları ise bilimsel köken bilgisi verilerdir. Bu çalışmada Türk kültür tarihinin önemli eserlerinden biri olan bu eserde değinilen köken bilgisi unsurları değerlendirilmeye çalışılacaktır.

The work, also known as Bâburname or Vekayî, has taken its place among the masterpieces of Çağatay literature. Translated into many world languages, such as German, English, Russian, XV. by the end of the century XVI. it contains important information about Central Asia, Afghanistan and India at the beginning of the century. This information partly contains descriptions of etymology. Etymology studies is made in order to find the true meaning of a word and there are some interesting examples of this study in Babur-nama. In these etymologic explanations, some of them could be classified as folk etymology and some of them are etymologic data. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate etymologic elements in one of the most important works in Turkish literature.
