The purpose of this study was to collect data about the corporal punishment in Turkish Families. For this purpose a questionnaire with 20 items was prepared and given to 389 students (170 girls and 219 boys) from Faculty of Education of Uludag University. The results showed that 53.2% of students experienced corporal punishment and 46.8% did not. 33.4% of the students reported that they were hit by their mothers, 24.6%of by fathers, and 38.6% by both of them. The association between SES and experiencing corporal punishment was tested by chi-square. It couldn’t found any significant relation. The same test was done for the association between gender and corporal punishment and also there was no relation between them. This means that at every SES level, for boys and girls corporal punishment was given. The study was intended to call negative effects of corporal punishment on personality development of children. These kinds of effects could be understood only by longitudinal studies
