Turkish teachers have a responsibility for teaching words. As a role model, in other words, by sharing their own vocabulary they contribute to enrichment of students’ vocabulary. Because of this, the aim of this study is to investigate pre-service Turkish teachers’ vocabulary according to some variables. In this respect, it is investigated that whether pre-service Turkish teachers’ vocabulary differ significantly depending on gender, grade level, types of education, reading in spare time, and follow at least one periodical. In this research, the pre-service Turkish teachers were asked to write a composition about a topic that they want and an autobiography. Vocabulary that was used in their written compositions has been investigated. Data gathered from 156 pre-service Turkish teachers. SCP 4.07 and SPSS 15.0 were used for analyzing the data. Because number of words is not continuous data, Mann Whitney-U as a non-parametric test was performed. Findings of this research assert that students’ vocabulary doesn’t show statistically significant difference in terms of sex, reading in spare time, follow at least one periodical; shows statistically significant difference in terms of grade level and types of education
