The endeavor to the creation of terminal behaviors in society rooted in the late Ottoman history, in other words in the emergency of the Turkish journalism. It is unrejectable fact that since Takvim-i Vekayi, newspapers published in Turkish had a certain political, social and cultural effects, first directly on the Ottoman elite and then indirectly on the public and even these effects, in time, contributed to the transformation of the Ottoman mentality. This method, taking advantage from journals in the creation of terminal behaviors in society, found a place itself in the process from the late Ottoman Empire to the early Republican Turkey. This article deals with six popular science periodicals published before the alphabet revolution; namely Fen Mecmuası, Demiryolları Mecmuası, Mühendis Mektebi Mecmuası, Telsiz Mecmuası, Fen Âlemi ve Tabiat Âlemi. Aforementioned periodicals are giving information on how they saw their role in the pages entitled introduction, foreword, to our honorable readers, and preface. Thus the roles they tried to play in the construction of a new society are determined. These roles also reveal that the view of the periodicals –and their publishers- to the period and society
