In this study, the financial performances of participation and conventional banks’ which have been active between the years 2005-2011 are compared. The performances for participation banks (Bank Asya, Kuveyt Türk, Albaraka, Türkiye Finans) and conventional banks (Akbank, Garanti Bankası, İş Bankası, Yapı Kredi Bankası) are compared due to the profitability, liquidity, riskiness, solvency and capital adequancy ratios. T-test is used for detecting differences between two sort of banks in empirical analyses. As a result of the analysis, it is stated that conventional banks have higher liquidity, solvency and capital adequancy, although lower riskiness. On the other hand, there were no statistical significant differences detected between conventional and participation banks about profitability.
