There are many variables that determine performance of economic growth. Human capital is one of these variables. The positive relationship between human capital and output growth has revealed by a large number of theoretical and empirical studies in the growth literature. As noted in the aforementioned studies education and health are the fundamental dynamics of human capital. Qualitative and quantitative improvements in education and health affect economic growth positively directly and indirectly. In this study, the relationship between education and economic growth especially in Turkey was investigated. The data for the period 1983-2005 were tested with ARDL method. According to the results, there exist a positive relationship between student-teacher ratios in primary school, elementary school, profession and general high schools, primary school enrollment rate, education expenditure and economic growth; a negative relationship between high school and college enrollment rates, education expenditures allocated to investment and economic growth.
