Criminology is a discipline defined as criminal science, which focuses on all the behaviours that are judged as criminal and thoroughly examines the issues related to these concepts. Positivism is a movement that advocates making case-based events measurable by an impartial method and a cause-and-effect relationship between them must be established.This perspective has been influenced by the establishment of a positivist school of criminology discipline and has emerged as a movement of thought that sets out the factors related to the concept of crime and causes of crime.It is important that forensic social workers use the foundation of eclectic knowledge to perform evidence based applications in their interventions. In this respect, the main aim of this research is to compare the views of the positivist school, which started a new trend in criminology concerning not only how the crime was committed but also “why the crime was committed", on crime and the view of crime in terms of principles, values and functions of social worker. Under this scope, the crime concept is discussed and interrelated to social work profession considering self-determination, acceptance and non-judgmental attitude, labelling and exclusions and individual’s approach in his environment.
