Culture encompasses customs, traditions, beliefs, thoughts, and science and art activities of a society as well the accumulations of the society conveyed from generation to generation. In line with the geographical area, the language spoken, and the social structures, communities form their own culture and thus specific cultural structures emerge in different regions. In this study, we aim to explore the perceptions regarding colour as one of the elements of art in different cultures, evolving from ancient times to the present. History of colour goes back to ancient times and colours played an important role during a very a long period from myths to modern poetry. The colors, as well as being a tool of expression throughout history in various geographies and cultures, also became a symbolic expression of ideas and meanings. Also, the colours used by a society became the richness of its culture. A descriptive methodology is used in this study, which aims to examine the concept of colour in cultures from ancient times until today, use of colour as symbolic values in various cultures, as well as for Turks, and then its contemporary functional uses
