Abstract:

The locations of some of the settlements are relocated as a result of some problems arising from the natural environment or in accordance with the human plnnings. The studies carried out about the settlements having the afore-mentioned characteristic generally include the examples which the relocation completes. In these sample studies which focus upon the reason and the outcome, on the one hand the analysis of the period of change is not possible, on the other hand the analysis of the alternative locations about choosing a place becomes insignificant. In this study, the alternative locations which have become prominent during the process of planning have been analyzed for the town of Yusufeli (Artvin-Yusufeli) where a verdict of relocation has been taken due to the construction of a dam. Geological-geomorphological structure, hydrological characteristics, probable habitat losses, the need of a settlement, land productivity and usage, production designs, transportation facilities and investment costs have been taken into consideration as the parameters of comparison between the present settlement and alternative locations.
