Today, textile production is made from fabrics in large quantities and with similar designs. Consumers, on the other hand, tend to prefer unique products rather than similar products. From this point of view, tie dyeing is an eye-catching method of coloring in which different products can be designed with various patterns. On the other hand, irregular, unrepeated and disorderly patterns obtained by tie dyeing method cause the products to look natural, even if they are dyed with synthetic dyestuffs such as direct and reactive dyes etc. This necessitates the use of tie dyeing technique for clothings like t-shirts, scarves, foulards, shawls, pareos, shirts and dresses used in everyday life and different types of decorative textiles (tablecloths, napkins, cushion covers, panties, curtains, lampshades, bags, etc.). Tie dyeing can be simply carried out by dipping the material into a container filled with the dyestuff solution, while putting a button, stone, ball, etc. into the tied and bent fabric or by fixing it into the fibers with the help of heat. In this review, the properties and designs of various textile products such as t-shirts, dresses, shirts made from natural fibers, such as cotton, silk and wool fibers, tie dyed with synthetic dyestuffs, their related tie dyeing methods and the recent developments were examined in detail.
