Abstract:

Turkish cinema, also known as “Yeşilçam” Films, has left lasting and deep traces in the minds of our people with its unique characteristics. In this process, the subject and characters of the film, as well as the film music used can be said to be very effective. Some of the films used in yeşilçam films are placed in a special position by the audience and even more popular in the film is also available. In Yeşilçam films, where original film music is used, there are also various examples of classical Turkish music instrumental work as it is more economical and practical. Classical Turkish music is seen to have a very important place in some of the works of instrumental music, such as the main theme melody or promotional(generic) music in some of the films of Yeşilçam. In this study, the use of classical Turkish music as film music in Yeşilçam films was investigated. An approach to situational detection was chosen in the research. During the research process, the film was filmed between 1968-1978 and the present Yeşilçam films containing Turkish music were investigated. Determined yeşilçam films were presented to the audience at different life level through the survey and 17 of the most popular Yeşilçam films were included in the research scope. The five films that were determined in this way were included in the evaluation in terms of having instrumental works in the main theme tunes. In order to make an objective assessment, an evaluation scale consisting of 19 questions was prepared and the film music, audio recordings and video samples were examined and evaluated on the evaluation scale. The data obtained was then converted into numerical data and visual graphs through statistical programs. If some of the results obtained as a result of the research are listed; the “saz eserleri” used in Yeşilçam films are an important auxiliary element in the audiovisual sense, the tracks can create different meanings and expressions about the content of the film in the minds of the audience, the instrumental works in yeşilçam films contribute to the transfer of Turkish classical music
