Özet:

As one of the main elements of narrative, the narrator can be examined in terms of modality like other people in it. It will also reveal the attitude of the narrator to the narrating act. In this study, the narrator has been tried to be analysed with other characters according to modality of semiotics. The main purpose of semiotics is to present the meaning formation. By means of analysing modality of narrator and other characters, their contribution to the meaning formation can be seen corporally. Tanpınar’s short story called ‘Acıbadem’deki Köşk’ is worth examining with regard to the periodical features that symbolised by the characters of the narrative and has been studied by many researches from different points of view. In the present study, the characters of the narrative have been analysed according to the modality and the modalities of the protagonist and the narrator that exist in the narrative as a character have been compared. With this comparison, it has been observed that the contrast between the periods that is thought to be represented by the characters are also parallel to each other in terms of modality
