In this study, after brief information about the definition of the waqf and the historical process, the effects of the complexes on the physical structure of the cities, which constitute a significant part of the waqfs in the Ottoman period, were examined. The bases of Ottoman city identity were laid with the complex systems. Bursa, Edirne and Istanbul, which were the capital of the Ottoman Empire respectively, were converted into the Ottoman city by the mausoleums built by the sultans and the newly conquered vacant places were transformed into settlement units such as villages, towns, cities and neighborhoods by the complexes and other waqfs.
