In this study, marriages and weddings are focused included in Shahnameh, the national epic of Iran and one of the world classics. After giving brief information about the work and its author Abul-Qāsim Firdawsi, Shahnameh weddings among the most loved parts of the work are chronologically arranged. While arranging this, it is dealt with how some of the most ancient traditions of wedding customs among mythical, legendary and historical epics such as asking for the permission of bride’s parents, preparing dowry, giving gifts are experienced, and the most outstanding wedding ceremonies in Shahnameh epics are presented. In this performed marriage one of the most remarkable aspects is what the purpose of these marriages was. Because the marriages considered as social institutions. Some of them were based on love, some of them were just for enjoy and others were for political interests. Jamshid Shah and Semnaz, Zal and Rudab and Rustam and Tahmine’s marriages are love marriages; Bahram’s marriage to the villager’s girls is enjoy marriage; Ferngis and Siyaveşh’s, Nahid and Darabi’s marriages are for political purpose, all of these marriages can be counted among the most beautiful examples given.
