The purpose of this study is to evaluate the curriculum of English preparatory programs through the students’ views and to give ground for improving the present situation by analysing the causes of the matters confronted. To this end, Preparatory Program Evaluation Questionnaire was developed by the researcher and it was administered to the students attending English preparatory classes at the university in the Academic Year of 2016-2017. A total of 258 university students (103 females, 40%; 155 males, 60%) attending Yıldız Technical University, Basic English Department formed the study group. After analysing the data, the findings have revealed that the great majority of the participants suffer from lower motivation; they do not study English to learn it; they want to learn English to find a good job in the future rather than get to know new cultures and people; the curriculum has to place more emphasis on listening and speaking activities, and an academic year consisting of 30 weeks is inadequate to master a second language. On the other hand, the participants have stated that the curriculum helps improve their reading and writing skills; English knowledge that they acquire meets their daily needs; the exams that are hold during the academic year are in line with the subjects they study; the content of the course book is understandable, and the curriculum is convenient for their entry behaviours. In accordance with the findings, some recommendations were made to improve the quality of the educational activities.
