The purpose of this study was to determine the use of language learning strategies of university preparatory class students studying at Necmettin Erbakan University, School of Foreign Languages. This study was a descriptive survey model and the data were collected via quantitative data collection technique. The participants of the study were a total of 274 volunteer English preparatory class students (129 female, 145 male) from twelve different classes. Strategy Inventory of Language Learning (SILL), developed by Oxford (1990) and adapted into Turkish by Cesur and Fer (2007), was used as the data collection tool. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (mean, frequency, percentage, and standard deviation). The findings of this study indicated that preparatory class students had an average level of language learning strategies and metacognitive strategies were the most frequently used strategies among students, followed by compensation, social, memory, affective and cognitive strategies respectively.
