The essays “On Suicide” and “On the Immortality of the Soul” are the works of David Hume in which he criticized severely the dogmatic beliefs and reasonings within the domain of religions. The convictions in the essays that resulted from the basic truths of the empirical philosophy and its skeptical method caused many deprecating criticisms both in their publication era and in later times. Starting with a will to investigate any topics concerning the human nature, in the same mood, Hume examined the beliefs and reasonings in which the dogmatic religion and its applications have been rooted. It would be ironical to condemn these two essays, prevent their publications and change their contents just depending the same dogmas that Hume tried to show that social problems of his age aroused from the strict beliefs in those dogmas. In this paper, instead of an mere analysis of the claims of Hume, it would be argued that how the problematic of the essays are real by recounting the publication story of them.
