Özet:

Abstract Free trade zones provide quite important incomes for country economies. Especially; creating new employment opportunities, providing foreign exchange income to the country, improving export and import, and improving the regions where they located both economically and culturally are the most important effects of free trade zone. But the value of free trade zone has been understood too late. Merely after 1970s, the world has begun to understand the importance of free trade zone. In these progresses, export oriented development efforts that have begun after 1950s, have an important role. In Turkey, free trade zone applications were also tried in the past; however, couldn't provide any success until 1980s. Today, Turkey, which has 21 free trade areas, can not gain the necessary commercial income owing to the fact that most of its areas don't work with full capacity. Turkey, in the location of an intercontinental bridge, even by this side, must be one of the most income providing countries in the world from free trade zone applications. With free trade zone, strengthened with necessary investment, made attractive via foreign capital, and brought under control well, it won't be a problem for Turkey to provide the deserved earnings at all.
