Geometric composition is significant in developing spatial abilities; geometric ideas and skills, and even foundations for understanding of number (Clements et al. 1997). According to study of Clements and others (2004), skills related to composition and decomposition shapes are very important for the development of geometric reasoning and concept formation. However searching the literature, it’s seen that in the researches related the subject are fulfilled with the little child. The aim of this study is to investigate the actions of the primary 6th, 7th and 8th grade students while they compose and decompose shapes. For this purpose 24 tasks which were based on Clements and Sarama’s research on levels of thinking in the domain of composition of and decomposition of geometric figures for young children were designed. The case study was chosen as a qualitative method. The participants of the study consisted of total 6 students comprising 2tudents from 8th, 2 students from 7th and 2 students from 6th grade. The data of study were collected by clinical interview. The data were analyzed by content analysis and actions of students were put forward. As a result of various actions of students concerning different problems were determined.
