Özet:

In this study, the reasons for students being truant, , were examined. The sample of the study was chosen in these? half of the 2014 - 2015 education year by a convenience sampling method within the purposive sampling method. 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade truants , from 16 different schools in the city of Malatya, were chosen. A semi structured interview form has been applied to the participants. As a result of the study, it was found that students have different reasons for being truant such as; personal problems or their parents, school environment, school management and their teachers. When the views of the students regarding the question 'how should schools be designed in order to prevent students from being truant .' They expressed some interesting views such as; the schools should be much more entertaining, there should be more social activities, block classes applications should be finished, the teachers should be interested in their students more, there should be a health care professional in the schools and the teachers should be more tolerant with their students. Schools should not be thought as just the places where lessons are taught. Schools should be more than this and there should also be more social activities in the schools. These are among the most important results of this study
