Petachia of Ratisbon (Regensburg), the Jewish trader and educated man who made a long journey from Prague to Baghdad via the Crimea and the Caucasus, had his memories and impressions recorded in his return to home. He usually tells only Jewish population of the visited lands, and disregards the others, but nevertheless his itinerary book includes very useful information for historians of other areas, too. Historians working on the late Saljukid era have not made use of his data. Besides, he makes great description of the Kipchak steppes.
